Mission Australia 2006 National Youth Survey results released
3 November, 2006
As promised, the results of Mission Australia’s 2006 National Youth Survey have been released. Involving more than 14,700 young people aged 11 - 24 (95% between 11 - 19, and with around 800 Aboriginal or Torres Straight Islander respondents and 150 homeless respondents), the survey found that family conflict, alcohol and other drugs and body image were the three main issues of concern. Family relationships, followed by friendships and being independent were the top three things valued most.
Interestingly, the survey also found that 21.4% of total respondents were involved in volunteering activities, with the rate increasingly significantly to 36.6% amongst those aged 20 - 24.
