After suffering a series of delays and cutbacks (the Summit was originally going to be held in early July, 2006 and had intended to cover accommodation expenses of participants), the Brightest Young Minds Summit is now accepting applications.

The Summit intends to bring together “100 of the Brightest Young Australian Minds in an environment which will challenge you to work collaboratively and stretch all of your abilities to their fullest extent…. brainstorming real social initiatives or socially beneficial business ventures, and then turning them into practical concepts.”

At the time of this post, scant little information is available on the website (not even a hosting city is mentioned, though one can deduce that it will be held in Sydney). The programme seems to consist of a series of seminars and workshops, with social events in the evenings and culminating in a presentation with sponsors (which include the Australian Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, The Prime Minister’s Community Business Partnership and law firm Phillips Fox).

Applicants are assessed on their leadership, passion, creativity and initiative, and ideas for a social venture. The application also asks for academic results, and, somewhat surprisingly, a $20 application fee.

Applications close 20 November, 2006.
