I’m participating in a panel presentation tomorrow at the Melbourne University Law Students Society’s Social Justice Forum on the topic ‘Leading Social Change’. I’ve uploaded the slides I will be using to http://www.alanwu.org/media/alanwu_lss.pdf. In addition to the content on the slides themselves, there is also significant content contained in my speaking notes.

If you attended the discussion and have further questions, please feel free to contact me.

Back from Beijing: Stay tuned

6 September, 2006

I arrived back into Melbourne from Beijing on Monday, and have been clearing a backlog of work. However, there doesn’t seem to be much news coming through, in any case. There are some opportunities on the horizon, but information has been embargoed for the time being. Stay tuned!

Blogging may be scarce over the next week or so as I’m in Beijing at the invitation of China’s State Council, attending their ‘Discovery Trip for Eminent Young Overseas Chinese.’ From what I can tell, it’s a primer on Chinese society, with guided excursions to Beijing’s major commercial and political areas, cultural performances, and meetings with Chinese officials. I’ll be back in Australia from the 4th of September, 2006.

I’m back from Tahiti and recovering from a flu that struck down many of the Australian delegation. Will be back on deck in the next few days with more posts. Stay tuned!

I’ll be leading the Australian Delegation to the Pacific Youth Festival in Pape’ete, Tahiti from 16 – 26 July, 2006. I had planned to blog regularly from the Festival, but whether this happens depends on whether we can access a reliable internet connection (if the delegation isn’t able to access the internet, this blog may be silent for the entire duration of my trip to Tahiti). In any case, I’ll be back on board from the 27th of July, 2006.

As promised today to the audience of the Youth Panel at the United Nations Youth Association National Conference 2006, I’ve uploaded my slides for download. I’ve adjusted them slightly so that they make a little more sense without my commentary (however, if you weren’t there to hear the presentation, the slides themselves probably still won’t clear enough to be of much use). You can download the slides at http://www.alanwu.org/media/alanwu_unya.ppt.

UNYC 2006 delegates, feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

I’ll be attending the live-in retreat of the Asialink Leadership Program at the Australian National University until the 22nd of June, during which time my ability to blog will be limited. I’ll be back on deck from the 23rd!

My participation at the upcoming United Nations Youth Association of Australia National Youth Conference (9 – 16 July, 2006: Sydney) has been confirmed. I will be speaking at 12:00 noon on 10 July in a panel session on the challenges and opportunities for young people in community participation. I’ll be joined by Tom Dawkins (founder of Vibewire.net) and Bec Jenkins (Australia’s first International Court of Justice trainee).

Despite an interest in the area and having heard of them previously, I’ve never attended a UNYC before. I’m looking forward to the experience: from what I hear, the youth-run conference manages to regularly enlist good speakers and draw a sizeable audience (of about 130 young Australians, who all share an interest in international affairs).
