Hugh Jackman and me at the Australia 2020 Summit
21 April, 2008
Of all the conversations I had at the Australia 2020 Summit, the one that has been referred to the most is the one I had on the first day with Hugh Jackman. He later mentioned it when hosting the excitingly-titled Plenary Session 2. A YouTube clip is available (posted by Crikey, no less) at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyNGL1w1PFw:
My recollection of my comments were that they were more along the lines of: “This is terribly un-academic and un-intellectual, but could I get a photo?”. See how this sounds far more polite?
Anyhoo: a strange claim to fame. Hee.
Alan in Paris: 5 – 20 October, 2007
8 October, 2007
I’m in Paris attending the UNESCO Youth Forum and General Conference. I’m hoping to post updates about what we discuss, but the agenda is very busy, so there may not be sufficient time. If you’re around and would like to catch up, contact me! I’ll be back in Australia on 21 October, 2007.
Alan in Geneva: 28 June – 14 July, 2007
4 July, 2007
Apologies for the exceptionally long delay between posts. It’s been an exceptionally busy time, with exams and now with a trip to Geneva for a course on institutions in international law. We’re visiting a number of institutions here (UN, WTO, WIPO, Red Cross and a few NGOs), but if you’ve got any specific suggestions as to places to see (or at which to eat!), please email me.
I’m currently going through a backlog of news and opportunities, which will appear in the next few days. Other than that, things will be a bit slower than usual…
Recovering…
10 May, 2007
Yes, so it’s been quite a while since the last post! Between interviews for seasonal clerkships with law firms, I’ve been attending the National Youth Affairs Conference (where the big news was a firm commitment by the Shadow Minister for Women and Youth Tanya Plibersek that the ALP would, if elected, re-establish a Minister for Youth and a national youth affairs peak) and have since fallen sick with a nasty cough. I should be back on board over the weekend, with a nice backlog of announcement and opportunities to get through.
Excitifying!
Alan at Brightest Young Minds Summit: 20 – 26 Jan, 2007
19 January, 2007
I’ll be in Sydney attending the Brightest Young Minds summit from 20 – 26 January, 2007. Blogging will be sparse during this period. If you’re around in Sydney and feel like meeting up for a chat about youth affairs-type stuff, feel free to contact me.
Alan in New Zealand: 8 – 26 December, 2006
8 December, 2006
So it’s been quite slow with news in the lead up to the holidays, and things, I expect, will only get even slower. I’m going on vacation to New Zealand until after Christmas, so blogging here will also be quite sparse. Of course, if you’ve got news or suggestions on blog posts, you can always contact me.
Comments and search enabled
27 October, 2006
After delaying it for as long as possible (dreading the technical difficulties that come with added functionality), I’ve managed to enable comments and search for this web log. Given its size (The Wellspring recently surpassed 100 posts and traffic has increased substantially), the lack of these features was getting more and more frustrating.
In the future, comments will be turned on for specific blog posts that invite discussion. Search is currently working (alternatively, you can browse through past blog posts arranged by topic by browsing the Archive of Posts, on the right sidebar).
Social Justice Forum Presentation Download
10 October, 2006
I’m participating in a panel presentation tomorrow at the Melbourne University Law Students Society’s Social Justice Forum on the topic ‘Leading Social Change’. I’ve uploaded the slides I will be using to http://www.alanwu.org/media/alanwu_lss.pdf. In addition to the content on the slides themselves, there is also significant content contained in my speaking notes.
If you attended the discussion and have further questions, please feel free to contact me.
